Micallef 51, 55, 96  Marsa regained sole leadership in the BOV Second Division as Lydon Micallef’s hat-trick propelled them to a 3-0 victory over Rabat Ajax. Micallef was one of five new signings named in the starting line-up by Marsa coach Josè Borg, along with Francesco Gusman, Kurt Zammit, Larson Mallia and Antonio Monticelli. During a highly entertaining first half, Marsa created the better chances. Larson Mallia tested Rabat goalkeeper Andrew Zammit on 12 minutes and four minutes later, Mallia just failed to connect with an inviting cross by Lapira. On 24 minutes, a powerful drive by Kurt Zammit was parried by the Andrew Zammit and four minutes later, in a swift counter-attack for Marsa, a low shot by Micallef was blocked by the Rabat Ajax goalkeeper. Just before the end of the first half, a rising shot by Shalon Diacono ended just over the bar. Marsa managed to take the lead on 51 minutes thanks to Micallef who received an assist on the left and hit low past goalkeeper Zammit. Rabat replied with an Aidan Azzopardi free-kick that was met by Joseph Caruana but his header was neutralised by Jonathan Grech on 53 minutes. A minute later, Micallef doubled Marsa’s lead, again firing a low shot past the goalkeeper after receiving a cross from the left. Neil Falzon went close with a diagonal shot from the right ending just wide on 84 minutes. A fine Christian Caruana effort from outside the area was blocked by the Rabat goalkeeper four minutes from time. Deep into stoppage time, Marsa scored the third goal, once again thanks to Micallef who rounded the goalkeeper before placing the ball in the back of the net. OTHER RESULTS18/01/2020MARSAXLOKK       5KALKARA UNITED 0(HT 2-0) (Luxol Stadium)1-0 A.
