The Elite and Amateur Futsal Leagues resume this week following a long break due to the national team’s commitments in the UEFA Futsal EURO Group C Tournament which was staged here last week.

Champions Luxol St Andrews Futsal, who have a perfect record of eight wins from as many matches, return to action this Friday as they take on neighbours Swieqi Futsal.

A 20.45kick off at the National Sport School in Pembroke sees Luxol, led by coach Gabriel Dobre, start as favourites to extend their 100 per cent record as well as their lead over rivals Valletta with the front duo all but sure of contesting the best-of-five play-off.

Valletta, who have made a couple of important signings in January, must wait until Wednesday of next week as they meet University of Malta Futsal. Carlo Scicluna, the Valletta coach, returns to club duties after working alongside national futsal coach Zeljko Anicic during the UEFA tournament.

Meanwhile, the Amateur League also returns at the weekend with two matches at the De La Salle College Pavilion.

On Friday, bottom side Qormi Futsal cross swords with Luxol Futsal Team B, the latter also leading the way followed by Swieqi Futsal B.

Żurrieq FC Futsal face South Boys Futsal in the other match this weekend, to be played on Saturday afternoon.
