Beu leads top scorers' chart in Division One with 25 goals

Lija Athletic striker Erjon Beu tops the scoring charts in the First Division with 25 goals in 18 matches before the local football and futsal competitions were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In his seventh season with Lija in this division, Beu boasts an impressive record of 78 goals in 121 matches – an average of 0.64 goals per match. His present tally is better than any in the previous six seasons … the closest was 2016/17 when Beu hit 24 goals in 24 matches. Beu’s 25 goals this season were scored in 14 matches (out of 18) … one goal in five matches (5), a brace in seven matches (14) and a hat-trick in two games (6). He scored all his goals in 14 full games which resulted in ejght victories (16 goals), three draws (5) and three defeats (4) for Lija, currently second in the First Division on 36 points, two behind leaders Żejtun Corinthians. Beu has converted four penalties. The 25 goals were netted against 10 different opponents – Fgura United (3); Mqabba (2); Naxxar Lions (2); Pembroke Athleta (5); Pietà Hotspurs (3); St George’s (3); Swieqi United (1); Vittoriosa Stars (2); Żebbuġ Rangers (3); Żejtun Corinthians (1). The Lija striker is well ahead of the other leading scorers in the second tier of Maltese football. Żejtun Corinthians’ Brazilian striker Ribeiro Do Nascimento Santos is second in the list with 13 goals followed by Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza (Pembroke Athleta) on 12.
