As part of the initiatives related to the ongoing PlayGreen project, the Malta Football Association joined the Saving Our Blue campaign, organised by the Ministry for the Environment, Sustainable Development and Climate Change earlier this month. The event included a clean-up activity organised by the Ministry at Pretty Bay in Birżebbuġa. Representatives of the Beach Football Association and members of the Malta FA Green Team took part, using this activity as a mentoring session as well as being part of the clean-up green activity. The Malta FA volunteers and Green Team members also participated in a football match as part of a number of games aimed at enhancing the participation of green volunteers in the PlayGreen project. These activities also help to engage volunteers in practising sport and the dissemination of information and collection of data on green habits and sports events. Members of the Erasmus Students Network also participated in this initiative. The Malta FA PlayGreen team is currently collecting and researching data for the green tool and developing green activities in their matches as part of this EU-funded project. ABOUT PLAYGREEN PROJECT The Malta Football Association is one of the partners in #PlayGreen, a project initiated by UEFA and funded under the European Union’s Erasmus+ Sport programme for a sustainable future in sport. Launched in Malta in March 2019, #PlayGreen aims to create volunteering opportunities for young people focused on sport and the environment through the development of an innovative volunteering format. To achieve this, PlayGreen is devising a methodology for greener sport events and developing a European network of organisations that will be able to enhance sustainability in grassroots sports through volunteering programmes and sharing of good practices.
