The final UEFA Nations League Group D1 match will be the 10th meeting between Malta and Faroe Islands and the sixth in the last three years. Malta and Faroe Islands have been drawn in the same group in three successive competitions – the 2018-19 UEFA Nations League, EURO 2020 qualifying campaign and the current UEFA Nations League. Faroe Islands hold the upperhand in the head-to-head encounters, winning six games while Malta have won two and one match, the home encounter in the inaugural UEFA Nations League edition, ending in a 1-1 draw. The first encounter goes back to 30th April, 1997 with Faroe Islands prevailing 2-1 in a 1998 World Cup qualifier at the National Stadium. Stefan Sultana scored Malta’s goal on the day. Malta registered their first win over Faroe Islands in 2013 friendly, winning 3-2 courtesy of goals from Ryan Fenech, Michael Mifsud and Jonathan Caruana. The last victory was achieved on March 23 last year when goals from Kyrian Nwoko and a Steve Borg penalty earned Malta a 2-1 home victory in EURO 2020 Group F qualifier. Will Malta repeat that feat in Tuesday's decisive clash? For detailed information download the Match Programme.
