The clash between Swieqi United and Mġarr United is the highlight of Matchday 12 of the BOV Women’s League. Both teams will meet at the Centenary Stadium on Tuesday (kick-off: 20.30).

Swieqi and Mġarr are currently joint second on 22 points after 10 games. Last week, the Oranges profited from Birkirkara’s victory over Mġarr as they beat Mtarfa to join the Greens in second spot.

Led by coach Keith Gouder, Swieqi broke little sweat to defeat Mtarfa 6-0. It was their third win on the trot since their 2-1 loss to Birkirkara back in December. After 10 outings, the Oranges have the second-best attack with 40 goals and the second-best defensive line with just 6 goals conceded, a record they will strive to preserve against Mġarr.

The Greens, under the guidance of coach Bryan Falzon, are coming from a 2-0 defeat at the hands of leaders Birkirkara. Despite the loss, Mġarr put on a solid performance but their missed scoring opportunities came back to haunt them as they slipped five points behind Birkirkara. So far, they have scored 39 goals and conceded eight after 10 games played.

Meanwhile, leaders Birkirkara will rub shoulders with in-form Kirkop United. The Stripes have cemented their lead after last week’s victory as they have won their nine games so far. Melania Bajada’s side left it late to beat the Greens as they have the best attack in the league with 45 goals scored while conceding only two goals in nine games.

On the other hand, Jochen Lenders’ Kirkop United collected three valuable points against a valiant Raiders Għargħur side last Tuesday to put daylight between them and the Għargħur-based team. The Reds sit in fourth place on 15 points, nine above Raiders. Forward Rodianne Zerafa made it 12 goals in nine games with a brace last week.

Elsewhere, Raiders, coached by Denis Guerra, will strive to bounce back as they face Mosta. Both teams have six points after nine games played, meaning that this is a perfect opportunity for both sides to chalk up three points.
