Champions Birkirkara will be looking to extend their perfect run when they face Mtarfa in the final week of women’s league fixtures before the international break.
The Stripes take on bottom side Mtarfa at the Mġarr Ground, this evening (kick-off 20.30). Meanwhile, second-placed Swieqi United clash with in-form Raiders Għargħur whereas Kirkop United and Mosta face each other in the other league match. With 11 straight wins, Birkirkara lead the way on 33 points, eight clear of Swieqi and Mġarr United. The Stripes have been dominant in this campaign with 64 goals scored, powered by Raina Giusti’s 15 goals combined with the nine goals each by by Alishia Sultana and Veronique Mifsud. They will be without Canadian striker Christabel Oduro who has left the club. Mtarfa, on their part, are still looking for their first points of the season in their maiden top-flight campaign. They are on the back of a defeat against Raiders Għargħur. During the transfer window, they have been active, bringing in goalkeeper Dorienne Grech from Raiders. The Għargħur-based side face Swieqi, at Dingli Ground. Denis Guerra’s team have won their last two games to move on 12 points, fifth in the table. Giulia D’Antuono, formerly of Mosta, has been their main signing during this transfer window. Swieqi, with 25 points from 11 outings, will be looking to collect their ninth win of the season to try and keep Birkirkara in their sights. During this transfer window, they have kept the core of the team except Simone Buttigieg and Alexandra Georgieva who both joined Kirkop United. At Kirkop, the former Swieqi pair will find Roxanne Micallef who has joined from Mġarr. The Reds will face Mosta after last week’s defeat to Mġarr United.
