BOV Women's League

  • Swieqi United captain Dorianne Theuma has won the BOV Women's Player of the Month Award for January/February period.

The 2020/21 BOV Women's League enters Matchday 16 this week as Swieqi United face in-form side Kirkop United while Mġarr United take on Raiders Għargħur. Leaders Birkirkara will serve a bye this week.

Swieqi, whose captain Dorianne Theuma was named BOV Women's Player of the Month for January and February, will be looking to add three points to their tally and maintain the second place in the league. They are coming from a solid performance against Birkirkara which earned them a 1-1 draw, with the Stripes levelling matters at the death. Shona Zammit, with her fifth goal of the season, had put the Oranges ahead. They have 29 points, leading Mġarr by just one point.

Kirkop, for their part, sit fourth with 19 points after 13 outings. Last week, they defeated Mtarfa 5-0 with Rodianne Zerafa scoring two goals. She is now leading the top scorers’ list with 18 goals alongside Mġarr's forward Francesca Chircop.

The Greens take on Raiders Għargħur as they look to maintain the pressure on Swieqi in bid for a top-two finish. Mġarr beat Mosta 3-1 last week as they are now on 28 points. Claudette Xuereb and Abigail Camilleri scored the first and third goal with skipper Brenda Borg grabbing her 10th of the season in between.

On the other hand, Raiders served a bye last week and are currently fifth with 12 points. They are missing promising youth Maya Lucia who is currently sidelined after sustaining a long-term injury.

Elsewhere, the two bottom sides of the league, Mosta and Mtarfa will be involved in a direct encounter.

Mosta have seven points, including a point gained in their surprising 1-1 draw against Kirkop a couple of gameweeks ago. Their opponents, Mtarfa, are still looking for their first points of the season after 13 games.
