New Malta Under-21 coach Gilbert Agius has selected 25 players for the two friendly matches against Qatar Under 23 Olympic team on Sunday 30th May and Bosnia-Herzegovina five days later.

The games will be played during a twelve-day training camp in Slovenia, that will provide the U21 head coach with an opportunity to take a closer look at his players who have the potential to be part of the Malta Under-21’s team for the upcoming 2023 UEFA European U21 Group C qualifying campaign.

Spain, Russia, Slovakia, Northern Ireland and Lithuania are the other teams in Malta’s Group, which competition starts off in September.

Agius’s current U21 squad includes a handful of players who play their trade in Malta, including the likes of Hibernians' Ayrton Attard and Balzan’s Marcus Grima, both deemed as the most experienced duo in this group.

A squad that also contains a significant number of newcomers, all ready to embrace this first experience representing their country at this level.

The Malta Under-21 squad will depart for Slovenia on Thursday.
