‘The next game is not important because the opponents are of our same level, but because it is the next one.  After we play Cyprus, then the most important match will be the one against Slovenia and so on,’ said Devis Mangia, Head Coach National Teams as he faced the media today in the first day of the training camp prior to Malta’s commitments in the European Qualifiers – World Cup 2022.

Devis Mangia, continued ‘We are working to change a mentality and create a unified approach’.

When speaking about his choice of players, he showed his disappointment that his choices were limited because of injuries.  Head Coach Mangia believes that some injuries might be connected to the fact that some of the players had not played competitive football since March of this year due to the early termination of the domestic football season. He said that data from the qualifiers in March showed that the players suffered in the third competitive match and he, together with his team, are trying to prepare the players in the best physical condition for the matches in the September international window.

This will be the first game with the spectators in the stadium under the guidance of Devis Mangia, since he took helm as Malta’s head coach.  The Head Coach commented positively about the return of spectators and is looking forward to this, despite the restrictions.
