MFA President, Bjorn Vassallo, attended a press conference organised in collaboration with the Ministry for Inclusion and Quality of Life following the signing of an agreement between the Malta Football Association and the same Ministry earlier this year, which will see the Malta Government investing the financial sum of €6 million over a period of years for the replacement of artificial football pitches at the Association’s member clubs football facilities.

‘The Malta Football Association, with the assistance of the Central Government, is working on projects to see Maltese football move forward in line with its strategic objectives. The Association will be focusing on the technical part and the development of players and coaches to increase participation, improve the technical level, among others by introducing a talent identification program through regional centers, and by investing in sports science and digital analysis', explained the President of the Malta Football Association Bjorn Vassallo.

Vassallo went on to say that ‘All this can be achieved through direct assistance  by the Government, which will now dedicate public funds to guarantee top level infrastructure, to be able to safe-guard a positive and healthy environment where children, youths, women, men and those with special needs can practice football in the best possible way'.

The Malta FA is in charge of the implementation of the agreement and at present the procurement process related to this work is currently underway.

The first artificial turf pitches to be replaced are those of Mqabba FC, Mosta FC, Mellieħa FC whilst that at the St. Joseph's House in Santa Venera will be installed with artificial turf for the first time.

Further details about the importance of sports in the community  were divulged by the Minister for Inclusion and Quality of Life Julia Farrugia Portelli and the Parliamentary Secretary for Sport, Recreation and Voluntary Organizations Dr Clifton Grima during the event which was held at the football grounds of Mqabba FC and for which the President of Mqabba FC and other club members were also present.
