The women's league is set to resume after the international break in which Malta managed to record a historic victory over Azerbaijan in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifications. The domestic campaign could not have resumed with a better clash as league leaders Birkirkara and Mġarr United will cross swords with each other at the Mġarr Ground.

Both sides are currently leading the women's league standings with nine points each after winning their opening three games. They are yet to concede a goal with Birkirkara scoring 14 goals whereas Mġarr found the net on 13 occasions.

Mġarr's skipper Brenda Borg has scored six of her team's 13 goals as she currently leads the top scorer list of the league. Birkirkara's current best scorer is Alishia Sultana who scored three goals so far.

In recent years, Birkirkara and Mġarr has become one of the classic fixtures of the league as the Greens became one of the main title rivals alongside Swieqi United. Last season, this fixture was played twice with Birkirkara emerging winners in both games (3-0 and 2-0).

Swieqi, on their part, will take on Kirkop United in Tuesday's other fixture. The Oranges have defeated Mtarfa and San Ġwann in their first two outings of the season, collecting six points.

They have scored 19 goals already with Kelly Agius Pace and Dorianne Theuma grabbing four goals each. Theuma and fellow Swieqi player Emma Xuereb, who has scored one goal this season, were on the scoresheet in Malta's victory over Azerbaijan last week.

Meanwhile, Kirkop are looking for their first points of the season after losing to Birkirkara and Mġarr so far.

San Gwann and Mtarfa will face each other in Wednesday's fixture. The two teams are currently without any point with debutants San Ġwann playing two games while Mtarfa, in their second senior year, playing three fixtures.
