Farrugia Cann certified to officiate with VAR

Easily deemed as another milestone for the Malta FA and Maltese football as FIFA badge referee Trustin Farrugia Cann has been certified with the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

Considered as one of the top referees in our country, at a young age Trustin has already absorbed plenty of experience at the international level, now also certified in this leap forward, whereby entrusted to officiate in high profile matches with the use of VAR.

Farrugia Cann has just landed back home ensuing a week long seminar held in Riva, Istanbul where he followed instructions undergoing rigorous drills when it comes to the use of this new football technology.

In attendance amongst others for this seminar were member of the UEFA referees committee Miss Dagmar Damková and UEFA Instructor Mr Pavel Gil.

This certification for Trustin will surely drive him forward to strive further in reaching the highest standards in refereeing in terms of more opportunituies in officiating key and high profile international football matches.

Speaking to, FIFA badge referee Trustin Farrugia Cann declared that he's honoured and privileged of this step forward in his career.

He highlighted, "This is not a personal accomplishment but also one for the Malta FA.  The Referees Association can commend the fact that a Maltese official is now well prepared and certified to be assigned high profile international matches, also with the use of VAR.

In total seven men and seven women from around Europe attended this course for VAR certification organised by the Turkish Football Federation.
