The Malta Football Association and the Office of the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations convened to discuss mutual collaboration for the benefit of both entities and particularly for football clubs.

Commissioner Jesmond Saliba who led the delegation representing the Office of the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations during a visit to the Malta FA offices acknowledged and praised efforts being made by the Malta FA to improve governance within football.

Saliba said that the reforms being undertaken should be emulated by other organisations across different sectors.

Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo reaffirmed the importance of good governance at all levels of the game as a strategic priority for the Association. This should be reflected in practice through the promotion of ethical values and integrity, accountability and transparency.

Both parties discussed ways through which the administrative burden for football clubscan be eased through streamlining of reporting and exchange of information. This is complementary to the initiatives of the Office of the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations, through the creation of VO Plus.

MFA and OCVO will follow up through a joint working group to steer discussion in a number of areas that include the corporative restructuring of clubs to ensure that any proposals in this regard are aligned.

The Malta FA, which was represented also by General Secretary, Dr Angelo Chetcuti, and Vice-President, Dr Matthew Paris, has in the past year amended its statutes primarily to improve its own governance, and is currently steering a reform in its club licensing system.
