Malta FA Technical Centre launches Raise The Game – a digital magazine for football coaches

All Malta FA-licensed coaches will receive a free copy of Raise The Game which is primarily intended to bring the Technical Centre closer to the ever-growing coaching community. This initiativealsocomplements the ongoing work of the Centre for Football Research and Development which was established last year to encourage and inspire students and researchers to conduct football-related research with the Malta FA, thereby contributing towards the growth of Maltese footballand the development of coaches. “In parallel with continuous professional development sessions, keeping ourselves updated with the latest trends, insights and research studieshas become of paramount importance in the modern game,” Karl Attard, the editor of Raise The Game and Co-ordinator of the Centre for Football Research and Development writes in his introduction.  Articles summing up two studies submitted as part of the coaching courses organised by the Technical Centre and one published in the MCAST Journal of Applied Research & Practice are featured in the firstedition of Raise The Game. These are: • The Coach-Created Motivational Climate in Professional Football (Woods, 2020) • An Overview of Injuries in Senior Women’s Football in Malta (Mercieca et al., 2020) • A Scouting Model – Using data and statistics to scout players for the Malta National Team (Sheridan, 2021) The online magazine is also enhanced with interviews with Devis Mangia, the Head Coach of the National Teams who is responsible for the Malta FA Technical Sector, and Malta Under-21 coach Gilbert Agius. “The Centre for Football Research and Development represents another platform aimed at enhancing our level of communication and knowledge-sharing with the coaches,” Mangia says in his interview. “Originating from the Centre for Football Research and Development initiative is the idea of introducing this online magazine which will provide a detailed insight into the work of the Technical Centre and also highlightresearch studies on different aspects of football.” An article about the Regional Hubs project, an updated list of coaching courses covering the period 2021-2024 and details of the coaching staff of all the national teams (men, women and futsal) as well as those engaged with the Inħobb il-Futbol Foundation can also be found in the first edition of the biannual Raise The Game magazine.
