The MFA Women’s League enters its business end of the season with six Matchdays left for the end of the season. Leaders Birkirkara will open their third-round commitments against San Ġwann with a six-point cushion ahead of Mġarr United. The Greens face Kirkop United as they will try to keep the heat on the league pacesetters.

The Stripes maintained their comfortable advantage at the summit of the championship after beating third place Swieqi United thanks to a Veronique Mifsud goal.

Birkirkara launch their third and final round fixtures against bottom side San Ġwann, whom they have defeated in the previous two meetings this season.

Led by coach Melania Bajada, the Stripes boast a goal difference of +50 with 53 goals scored in just 12 games.

Malta women’s international Alishia Sultana is their club top scorer with 10 goals.

San Ġwann, on their part, have a single point in their tally after 12 outings – gained in a goalless stalemate against Mtarfa. They are at the back of a 5-0 defeat against Mġarr.

The Greens will take Kirkop United as they will try to remain in Birkirkara’s tail despite their six-point deficit from the top of the league.

Michael Mangion’s side were propelled by a Maia Debono hat-trick against San Ġwann, with Rodiana Borg and Brenda Borg scoring the other goals. Captain Brenda Borg cemented her second place in the league’s scoring charts with 11 goals.

They boast the second-best defensive record with just four goals conceded. In both games this season, Mġarr emerged winners in the two encounters.

On the other hand, Kirkop are at the back of three consecutive wins in which they recorded nine goals and conceded none including against Raiders Lija where they won 1-0.

Aleksandra Georgieva scored the all-important goal for the Reds, chalking up her fourth of the season.

Meanwhile, Raiders will be striving to bounce back to winning ways when they face Mtarfa.

Denis Guerra’s side have been producing important results with 30 goals scored in 12 league outings in this campaign.

Their opponents – Mtarfa – have four points courtesy of their first win of their history in the women’s game, having beaten San Ġwann 1-0.
