The FSR Department, under the Inħobb il-Futbol Foundation is currently in Romania to take part in meetings related to one of their EU-funded projects Progres (gender mainstreaming in football) Whilst there two of the Maltese representatives, mainly FSR Head Peter Busuttil and National Team player Maya Lucia addressed the media "It's a project that started two years ago and aims to study and promote gender equality in football. Football is a sport, but through it we can promote equality, be it gender, gender, race or skills. Football provides support and unites the world. But the study can be applied to other disciplines as well. sent to Malta to over 120 sports associations because we want the project to be implemented everywhere,” said Peter Busuttil whilst addressing those present. Maya Lucia confirmed that, “Football is the perfect way to overcome these stereotypes, because in the end there is only one ball on the field and everyone has one goal.  It doesn't matter where you come from, who you are or what you believe in. That way, sport can promote gender equality and beyond.” Whilst in Romania, together with a local NGO Filia the Maltese delegation spent Tuesday at the Gara de Nord station which is a welcome centre for Ukrainian refugees in Bucharest. They assisted refugees, preparing food and played football with the children in the 5 seperate sectors set up at the station, while also helping volunteers in distributing and aiding refugees who were arriving every two hours at platform 14.
