Maltese football followers and sports lovers at large should be happy to learn that our national team’s latest rankings in the FIFA list of 207 nations have gained a massive 23 places. We are now ranked in the133rd position which means a place in the top half of the long list.  We are aware that a miniscule country like ours cannot aspire to be anywhere near the summit of the worldwide standings. However, given our size, we do show up satisfactorily in this regard and this time the leap has been significant.  Our recent results culminating in that excellent away win against Armenia in a group B Brazil 2014 World Cup match last month were instrumental in this healthy push up the table. While acknowledging that we can still move up more places, we should keep in mind that such gains are the result of hard and assiduous work by the players and the technical staff headed by our national team coach. The MFA is sure that our technical people are on the right track in ensuring that Maltese football at national level continues on the road of progress.
