Malta’s World Cup qualfying group B return match against the Czech Republic at the Ta’ Qali National Stadium on the 11th October is expected to mark a milestone in Michael Mifsud’s career as it will be his 100th cap for his country    The Maltese prolific scorer, now Australia-bound as he will be joining Melbourne Heart FC, is our leading scorer on the international stage with 37 goals from 99 matches.   Every time Michael steps on the field of play there are expectations that his statistical scoring readings will keep improving. These records, astonishingly, have put our goleador alongside some other well-known top-scorers who are still active. The figures are remarkable if we keep in mind that modern day attackers have to face tight defences. Moreover, it is pertinent to note that Mifsud plays for a small country which invariably finds it difficult to score against opposing rearguards from stronger countries. His 0.374 goals per match – more than one goal in every three matches - compares very well with the average of great current scorers from other countries at international level.    His career which started with Sliema Wanderers, his home town club, took him to Kaiserslautern in Germany, Coventry City, England, Lillestrom (Norway) and back to Malta where his last playing stint was with Valletta. All the Maltese, especially the football followers, will certainly hope for more goals from this player.  That would put him closer to the 40-mark threshold and a place in the top six current international goalscorers.  Player Profile MICHAEL MIFSUD Born17th April 1981Age32ClubValletta F.C.PositionAttackerInternational Debut        10th Feb 2000 - Home vs AlbaniaAppearances99Goals37 Michael Mifsud’s Goals for Malta DateVenueCompetitionOpponentScoreGoals       25-Apr-2001Ta' QaliWC QualifierIceland1-4114-Nov-2001CorradinoFriendlyCanada2-119-Feb-2002Ta' QaliRothmans T'MentJordan2-1113-Feb-2002Ta' QaliRothmans T'MentMoldova3-0117-Apr-2002Ta' QaliFriendlyAzerbaijan1-0120-Nov-2002LevkosiaEC QualifierCyprus1-2130-Apr-2003Ta' QaliEC QualifierSlovenia1-3110-Sep-2003AntalyaEC QualifierIsrael2-2131-Mar-2004Ta' QaliFriendlyFinland1-2118-Aug-2004ToftirFriendlyFaroe Islands2-3113-Oct-2004SofiaWC QualifierBulgaria1-412-Sep-2006Ta' QaliEC QualifierBosnia-Herzegovina2-5117-Oct-2007Ta' QaliEC QualifierMoldova2-3121-Nov-2007Ta' QaliEC QualifierNorway1-4126-Mar-2008Ta' QaliFriendlyLiechtenstein7-1530-May-2008GrazFriendlyAustria1-5112-Aug-2009Ta' QaliFriendlyGeorgia2-0218-Nov-2009CorradinoFriendlyBulgaria1-413-Mar-2010Ta' QaliFriendlyFinland1-2111-Aug-2010Ta' QaliFriendlyMacdonia1-114-Jun-2011PiraeusEC QualifierGreece1-3110-Aug-2011Ta' QaliFriendlyCenral African Republic2-122-Sep-2011Ta' QaliEC QualifierCroatia1-316-Sep-2011Ta' QaliEC QualifierGeorgia1-1129-Feb-2012Ta' QaliFriendlyLiechtnestein2-122-Jun-2012LuxembourgFriendlyLuxembourg2-0214-Aug-2012SerravalleFriendlySan Marino3-227-Jun-2013YerevanWC QualifierArmenia1-01
