Members from the Malta Under 17 squad paid a courtesy visit to De La Salle College in Cottonera as part of the Campaign for volunteers to participate in the hosting of the UEFA Under 17 Finals in May 2014.  Joe Micallef, Director of the Volunteers Programme, Dr. Portelli, the college headmaster and the college sports co-ordinator Mr. Casaru, co-ordinated the activity. U17 Squad players Jamie Mifsud, Isaac Abela and Iousef Meli shared their experiences of forming part of the squad with sixth form students. They spoke about their ongoing preparations, both from the physical and mental aspects, as well as on their expectations during the May tournament. Micallef explained that apart from the eight participating teams (including Malta), another team is needed. The team of volunteers, which will definitely be an important point of reference for the MFA, in the organisation of the tournament. “Each and every volunteer will undoubtedly cherish the opportunity of working closely with the teams themselves or with special guests, personalities from UEFA, European Sports Ministers and others who will be in Malta at the time” continued Micallef. He encouraged the students to accept the challenge to form part of this team “I am convinced that at the end of the tournament every participant would be proud of having been part of the success” Joe Micallef concluded by saying that the number of applications received since the launch of the programme, is an encouraging one and augurs well for MFA to find the required number of volunteers. He finally reminded those present that the closing date for applications is the 30th of December 2013. Other similar visits are scheduled for the coming weeks. The Volunteers Application From can be downloaded FROM HERE
