REFEREES’ WINTER SEMINAR THIS WEEKEND . . . . FOREIGN MATCH OFFICIALS FOR FA TROPHY QUARTER-FINALS

60 match officials from 5 different categories are attending a referees’ winter seminar this weekend in preparation for the final and important phase of the different competitions organised by the Malta Football Association.  The main speaker at the seminar is David Elleray, UEFA Referees’ Committee member responsible for Malta.  The two-day seminar on 15th-16th February is being held at the Babylon Suite (Level 8), Cavalieri Art Hotel, St Julian’s. The main theme of the seminar is ‘Achieving Greater Understanding and Consistency’ On Saturday David Elleray’s lecture is about ‘Confrontation’, while on Sunday his lectures are about ‘Teamwork and Cooperation, including the use of the Communication Equipment’ and ‘Concentration, Awareness and What does Football Expect?’ The other referees’ instructors participating at the seminar are Adrian Casha and Victor Mintoff.  Adrian Casha will analyse recent BOV Premier League match situations, while Victor Mintoff shall conduct a group discussion about the referees’ performance in the U*BET FA Trophy Quarter-Final match, Naxxar Lions vs Valletta, for which all participants will be present to make an individual analysis first, then join a group analysis exercise. Foreign referees have been appointed for the 4 U*BET FA Trophy Quarter-Finals.  Match officials from Finland shall be in charge of the Qormi vs Birkirkara and the Sliema Wanderers vs Pieta’ Hotspurs matches on Saturday and Sunday respectively, while the Football Association of Ireland is providing match officials for the Naxxar Lions vs Valletta match on Saturday and the Gzira United vs Rabat Ajax match on Sunday.
