Malta's Under 21 side were beaten 2-1 by Sweden in their third home qualifier from the UEFA Under 21 Championships.

Right from the start it looked like Sweden were here to bag maximum points from this match, and in fact they immediately took the initiative. Malta however opened the scoring in the 10th minute. Ryan Scicluna grabbed the opportunity after a misunderstand between the two Swedish central defenders..

The Swede's persistent attacking play gave result in the 28th minute when they equalised amidst uncertainty in the Malta defence from a corner coming in from the right.  A. Milosevic was the scorer.

Sweden's supremacy continued for the rest of the half and the start of the second. The visitors finally managed to forge ahead in the 70th minute from a very well taken direct freekick by John Guidetti.

Malta were unlucky not to level the match in the 75th minute when Jean Paul Farrugia rattled the crossbar from a central freekick from just outside the penalty area.

From then on it was touch and go from both sides and each created a couple of opportunities. 2-1 for Sweden it finished.
