Hibernians FC are the winners of the BOV Super Cup 2022/2023 beating Floriana 5-4 after a penalty shootout to lift the coveted trophy.  The first ever Super Cup was held in 1984, and throughout its history, Hibernians won it 4 times, one of which was also over the same finalists Floriana in 1994 and the game had also ended in penalties after a 2-2 draw during regular time.

The BOV Super cup pitted last season’s BOV Premier League Champions Hibernians against Izibet FA Trophy Winners Floriana, in a match that, for the first time in its history was played at the Gozo Stadium, reaching new audiences and raising the profile of the game.

With both teams failing to to find the back of the net during both regular and extra time, the match went to penalties with both teams scoring their first 4 penalties. Oualid el Hasni saw his penalty saved by goalkeeper Ibrahim Kone, who then stepped up to take his team’s last penalty and did not disappoint.

Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo, Ernest Agius, Chief Officer Operations at Bank of Valletta, Dr Samuel Azzopardi from the Gozo FA and Ronald Sultana, Director VisitGozo.com presented the BOV Super Cup to the winners.

Before the presentations to both teams, and officials, the VisitGozo.com trophy for the man of the match was presented to Floriana's Jan Busuttil by the Director for VisitGozo.com Ronald Sultana.
