Joelma, Espitia rewarded for top performances in Assikura Women’s League
Youth League awards for Abdulai, BartoloFour players have been rewarded for their eye-catching performances in the opening phase of the 2023-24 Assikura Women’s League and Assikura Women’s Youth League.Joelma, of Mġarr United, and Hibernians forward Alexis Espitia are the first players to be presented with the redesigned Assikura Women’s League trophies. The presentation was held on Wednesday afternoon at the Assikura Insurance Brokers offices in Santa Venera.Mġarr’s Brazilian playmaker Joelma won the August/September award after a scintillating start to her first ever spell in Maltese football. Joelma scored five goals during this period, including four to guide her side to an 8-0 victory over Mtarfa. She is currently the league’s best scorer with 17 goals.For her part, Espitia scored seven goals between October and November to consolidate her position as the best scorer for Hibernians with 10 goals. The El Salvador-born player netted the winner against San Ġwann and one of the goals which helped the Paolites to overcome Mġarr United 3-2 on matchday nine.ABDULAI, BARTOLO WIN YOUTH LEAGUE PRIZESMeanwhile, Swieqi United’s Salamatu Abdulai and Valletta midfielder Francesca Bartolo have won the first two awards of the 2023-24 Assikura Women’s Youth League.Abdulai, voted best player for the period August/September, is the league’s leading scorer with 10 goals for pacesetters Swieqi United while Bartolo, who secured the October/November award, tops the scoring charts for the Citizens with six goals.
