Final Home Stand: Malta WNT Faces Northern Ireland

The Malta women's national team will play its last home game of the current cycle of European Qualifiers tomorrow.

Competing in Group B3, the team has secured just one point so far, from an away draw against tomorrow’s opponent, Northern Ireland. Following that, the Malta WNT, led by head coach Manuela Tesse, suffered defeats at home against Portugal and in both double-header matches against Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Coach Tesse is expected to maintain the same tactical approach used throughout this competition, implementing minor changes to the previous call-up. This includes the return of experienced player Emma Xuereb, who is back from a long injury, and the first call-up for the promising youngster Lexine Farrugia, currently on Sampdoria’s books.

For weeks, coach Tesse has focused on enhancing the players' physical fitness and mental resilience. This preparation aimed to help the team overcome the disappointment from the Bosnia-Herzegovina matches and to better compete against two stronger teams in the upcoming games.

Talking about her expectations regarding Friday’s game, Tesse is hoping for a strong performance, quality football, and ultimately a positive result. 

Before the game on Friday, player Stephania Farrugia will be honored with her 100th cap.

After Friday’s match, the WNT will travel to Leiria, Portugal, for its final game in these qualifiers. 

The European Qualifier match against Northern Ireland will take place tomorrow at the Centenary Stadium in Ta’ Qali, with a 19:30 kick-off. Tickets are available at MFA Tickets.
